HOW TO DEAL WHEN BABY BITES WHILE BREASTFEEDING!

Oh motherhood! I've heard of babies biting their mother's nipples and the day it happened to me I thought I was dying! Bobo was almost rolling on the floor from serious laughter... "these nipples are sensitive my fren why are you laughing"? Even Tito looked up from his position and was laughing. Kini gbogbo katikati ? Wozalldis?! Bobo's mum told me that her son, my husband, was just the same! Biting you while staring deep into your eyes to see your reaction. Like father, like son!

Another time Tito bit me my dad was there, I screamed so loud that Tito started crying from the shock of it. Popsy was not happy I screamed, but I never esperrrrred it...if na you nko? I would like to keep breastfeeding till after his first birthday so if I don't stop the bitting now, then we cannot be breast friends.

I have found solutions that help me deal with the Biting so we are good!

  • A quick tap on that pampered butt, just to say "Hey mister, watch what you are doing". A light tap will stop your baby in action and hopefully they free the nipple.
  • Be attentive to your baby. I noticed that he would bite when he was either full, falling asleep or just playing with the nipple, or when he is distracted. When I see he's beginning to hum while nursing, I free the nipple.
  • Another option I've tried is immediately sticking my finger in his mouth. He would immediately let go and free the nipple.

What have you been doing to stop your baby from biting while breastfeeding?

  3. Have been experiencing this with my son and my husband doesn't understand why I scream. My son doesn't even release the nipple until I forcefully remove it by tapping his cheeks gently.

  9. Kai that bite is painful oh! What I did was to stick my pinky finger in her mouth to remove my nipple, scold my daughter and end the feeding. I did this about two times, my daughter learnt her lesson

  10. Tito is forming big boy with his teeth, test running with your nipples.
My two boys grew teeth at 3 months and three months plus two weeks interval.

Amazingly till they were weaned at one year, they never for one day bit my nipple.

The biting things differs with kids.

Nice job you are doing Sisi..

  11. For my first, tapping her cheeks and putting a finger in her mouth to stop the biting worked and I was able to nurse her till 13months, she voluntarily stopped. But for my second kai, nothing worked and everyone thought I was exaggerating the pain I felt each time I nursed her. My nipples were almost cut into 2, u could see the red crack, I went to my gynea and he ordered to stop nursing immediately at 11months.

  12. Biting come with the territory o and it doesn't matter if they have teeth or not. I breastfed my first for 23 months plus and he didn't bite so much but his brother who is 7 months old without teeth can bite for Africa. It happens when he's falling asleep though so I look out for that and I gently remove my nipple.

  13. My daughter will drag my nipples till it became elastic! When she started teething she will bite me just to ease whatever is going on in her mouth, the more I scream the happier she was was! Sadly I haven't been able to do anything about it. We will rough it out till she has mercy on me.
