PAMPERS BABIES VS HUGGIES BABIES

Oh my life has changed! LOL. It revolves around diapers and breast pads and baby "sturves"...we thank God.  This will be my first mommy post on my blog. YAY!

When I was pregnant I had a baby shower and I got some gifts which included a pack of huggies-I thought the little huggies diapers were so cute! Then my sister said "this our baby is huggies baby oh"....it got me thinking. Huggies baby bi ti bawo? I told her I had several packs of pampers diapers I was gifted earlier-infact I had so many that they filled a big cupboard. My friend over hearing our conversation quickly jumped in saying I should forget huggies because;

1. Huggies is hard to find.
2. It is just better to use pampers.

Those were the only reasons she gave. What were the reasons the huggies camp gave?
1. Huggies babies were more "posh"- was a thing of class.
2. Huggies babies don't get diaper rash

I was advised to use both diapers interchangeably i.e use huggies week one then use pampers week two but ain't nobody got time for that! I've not really had time to be switching it up like that-Chief is only 2 weeks old.

Being a new mommy this made me confused. The huggies and pampers camp didn't make it easier because they were really battling it out! Should I get used to these kind of arguments and comparisons? Also I've heard the Johnson's baby products vs Chicco products argument too.

So mummies in the house, what diaper does your baby use and why?

  1. Alot of does comparison will definitely arise n i for one dnt really give in to such comparision i make do wit wat works for me.....as for huggies never tried it at all cos of is very expensive for no particular reason n also was so scarce in my area. i started wit DRY FIRS diaper its so nice n ur baby will also stay dry buh later couldnt fine it again i change to JOYJOE diaper which was equally nice buh one day wen we went for immunization dis pampers agents came to advertise n gave us 2 each to try i used it n decided to try it out buh wen i did i didnt like d experience i got cos as soon as my baby pee like 2times u will discover dat d wool inside start falling off like grain of rice n it can be so so embarrasing so dats d reason i dnt like n didnt go for pampers diapers at all....so basically i go wit wat works for me n not wat works for anoda......by d way how is our chief doing trust he is doing great....peacegidigba@gmail.com

  2. Huggies all da way, its classy and stays drier longer. My boy used it until he stopped wearing diapers at 1year plus. No nappy rash.. I only bought the brand with a red carton i think its the UK brand, not very sure.

  3. I use to use huggies very nice, no rash, she is very comfortable with it, but a friend introduced me to bleir bleir and its very good. How is cheif doing.

  5. My initial comment wiped out! Ok here we go
First congrats sisi!(even though you refused to reply my tweets o) :p ok so I think preference to Huggies or pampers depends on geographical location. In the UK pampers is slightly more expensive than Huggies and has a higher market share. I think pampers is also preferred here. However I heard in Nigeria Huggies is not as available as pampers which ofc increases its demand and thus more expensive and this gives the illusion of 'poshness' our people revere. Nigeria and class ehn, God help us. I was gifted with the cutest platter of Huggies at my baby shower. Yes platter cos it was rolled up individually and stacked on a tray looking like a scrumptious cake of diapers. I used this for my lil one for his first few weeks of life. Personally I prefer pampers because I think it led to less leak accidents (you'll know what I mean pretty soon) however this may have been because my diaper skills improved! Lol. Happy for you sisi and glad to see you are fairing well with this wonderful phase of life! X

  6. Huggies works very well for me, it keeps my baby dry for a long time and the difference in price is not much.Pampers does not work for me at all. it breaks easily and the wool inside starts falling off like gel.

    1. I think it has to do with the brand of pampers, cos I found out that Abi dry or Wat leaks the stuffing but swaddlers, cruisers are wonderful

  7. Congratulations on the baby! Welcome to mummyhood! I have tried both; but I prefer huggies because is stays drier longer and more comfortable with the elastic stretch.

  8. Huggies all the way. Brand with the red cartoon is american bt be sure to buy from good place.classy nd last longer

  9. Middle class and elitist problems! Loool!
Posh? On top diapers? such silliness! In any case, they cost about the same in the US, so preference and not cost dictates the choice.
Just find what works for Chief and stick with it.
My babies had rashes and leaks with Huggies at different times(US ones, not adulterated/fake) but have no issues with Pampers (US and the South African white and gold wrapper ones)
    So, for me Pampers>>>>>Huggies

  10. Hi Sisi. Congratulations on your baby. I think Pampers premium is good but at the end, na to hold shit and urine both dey do. Diaper rash is gotten when you don't change diaper as soon as baby soils it. Pls don't use J&J pdts. A lot of babies end up breaking out with rash. I use virgin coconut oil. It's really good.

    1. Sooo on point with this coconut oil.
Daz all I have been using on my lil Royal and my oh my!!! Not even a teeny weeny skin issue. Pure original natural coconut oil.
I hear fake J&J dey market ehn BUT even if I was gifted it straight from the manufacturer, I no go gree. Hehehe. Have also been using it on my skin way before now and always knew I would use it on my kids.

  11. Congrats Sisi Yemmie, as for me, Huggies all the way. I used it for my first baby till she stopd using diaper n I'm stil usin it 4 my 2nd baby. Som weeks back, I traveld hom n couldn't get Huggies so I bought Pampers premium, my mum's comment got my ribs cracking... she said "Shey diaper ni pampers yi sha?" as in- is pampers a diaper? criosly, dey can't b compared. Huggies is far better especially the Dry comfort brand.

  12. Lol! All these 'debates' thank goodness I never heard nor got into any of these! I've always used pampers myself partly because when I wanted to get into huggies they stopped selling it in the UK (they only sell the swimming nappy and wipes now). So it's stupid expensive to get it here. That said, like another commenter said earlier, you'll know what works best for you and chief when he does or doesn't have leaks, especially with a 'poonami' - they are nasty! X

    ReplyDelete
  13. Congrats Sisi. Bless the Chief!!!
I started off with Pampers and it was fine as I changed it 3-4 times in 24hrs. The plan was Huggies but I mistakenly ordered Size 2 and by the time it landed,no time for re-order so I enter market and pampers caught my eye esp cos I wanted to be able to join the debate having tried both. Personally tho, no major diff between both. But my pampers never leaked or showed any cotton falling off drama. Huggies was just aii too. My bestie uses Pampers Premium care and tz supposed to 'be like huggies' and is even more expensive and she says tz amazing and she gifted me in the bigger size. Yet to try it as my lil Royal never reach dat size.
Also note that we have 'Nigerian pampers' ooo and dts what gets compared with Huggies.
American and I think UK Pampers esp those ones with wetness indicator and umblical chord notch is way up there mehn!!! That's why a 'commenter' said tz slightly more expensive.
But nne, a friend gifted me 'Kirkland's Costco' she got from the UK. Let's just say e remain make I find am inside that ur cupboard'. That diaper is AMAZEBALLS!!! Blows Pampers and Huggies outta water easily FOR ME. Choi!!! Anybody know where I can get it in Nigeria, holler pls.

Last last sha, na to dey on point with changing baby's diapers. Don't let it stay too long. Check and change often. Then we won't have to worry about diaper rash whether we use pampers, huggies or Costco!!!

    All d best nne...

    1. Hi. I got Kirkland diapers at a store in adeniji Adeleke mkt in Lagos. They only had the size 2 though. Yet to try them as I'm expecting my bundle in July. So I'm glad to read ur review. I used Italian brands/tujour for my first baby and they were awesome so I'm not in d least crazy abt huggies or pampers.
If ur interested in their contact holla with ur email and I'll send descriptions. Take care.

  14. Hi Sisi, I live in the US and there are different kinds of Pampers: Pampers Swaddlers, Cruisers and Baby Dry. If you compare Huggies to Pampers Baby Dry then I'll say Huggies is better. But Pampers Swaddlers and Cruisers are faaaaar better than Huggies. I think a lot of people in Nigeria think Huggies is better because people love novelty. Since it is new and uncommon, they feel it's 'classier'. I received both Pampers and Huggies gifts after birthing my youngest baby... I see the difference when I use Pampers. So it's Pampers all the way for me.

  15. Ok I have 2 babies and leave in the US,for me I prefer pampers though its more expensive( am a cheapo) because 1) pampers is longer and so u have less soiled cloths after a blow out( my kids sabi do well well)
    2) its more absorbent esp the swaddler
    3) no funky smell
The pampers in Nigeria and America are very very different
Huggies is actually cheaper here oh so forget Nija

  16. am not a mother yet but am n aunt.... blv me wen I say, chicco products are betta nd for diaper, Huggies is better and can be found in almost evry mart. Also, any baby can ve rash, Huggies, pampers, sunfree or not, the rash on babies bums is mostly caused by d parents, modaz need to let dier bum breathe sumtyms nd always apply an ointment b4 using d diaper( do not use baby oil or powder, dey ve a special one for this purpose) have blast nd I pray he grows in Godz wisdom...www.amnaijaandproud.blogspot.com

  17. I use the two depending on what I find when I go to buy and I haven't noticed any difference. They are both good. Pampers is easier to find. Don't know which pampers you guys are talking about that has wool falling off cause I buy what I see and so I use the premium pampers and the Nigerian pampers and I haven't experienced that. Nigerians need to stop this class and posh nonsense and stop putting people under pressure. At the end of the day it's just to pack pupu and there is nothing posh or classy about that! All na shit. Having said that when it comes to wipes I really prefer huggies pure it really feels just like cotton wool and water but when I run out and it's out of stock I buy a pack of what I see which is johnsons.

    1. LOL! i use Pampers Premium too and i am yet to see the wool falling off.

  18. Definitely Huggies, I used pampers and I had to change my babys' diapers more often than when I use Huggies. Huggies wipes is better too.

  19. The hospital I gave birth in used pampers and gave me a few weeks supply to take home with. But man, when my baby started having bleeding diaper rash and ela at one week old, nobody told me to try huggies. I rushed and bought it and was glad I did cos it truly stays drier. Use Huggies snug and dry and I assure you you'll have no regrets. Plus it's cheaper and really easy to get (at least here in Abuja it's more available and cheaper than pampers premium). P.s. My baby got ela and diaper rash with pampers even after changing every 1-2 hours!

  20. I was laughing as I read the post and comments.

NIGERIANS!!! On top pee and poo matter, nah tush and class dey shele?

Anyways, Iya Chief, congratulations once more. How is bobo doing?

I used both cloth nappy and pampers for my first 4 children, nappy at day, pampers at night. I never experienced leakage or nappy, because, I changed cloth nappy often and used vaseline on their bumbum, which is the trick, and I allowed breeze to touch their bumbum small by wearing pant when they started crawling, after the morning poopoo or before they sleep.

When I had my 5th child, I initially bought pampers-swaddlers, but found out it was more expensive than Huggies... and huggies is the expensive one in Nigeria o. So I switched to Huggies ... later Parents choice because it was cheaper than huggies, and that is what I have been using ... my baby is 17 months now, no single rash, nor have I experienced any leakage, because, in the pediatrician clinic, you are told you must use between 7-10 diapers a day, because children urinate every 20mins. So, a diaper must not stay for more than 3-4 hours max! And in Nigeria, where Akamu is the main baby's food with breast milk, apart from the other medimedi ... babies, will urinate more .... so a diaper should not stay more than 3 hours to prevent leakage and rashes.

I even wrote a post on it far back, lemme go and search.... ok! Am back! Here is the link.

  21. Sisi yemmie!huggies is just the best but there are different kind of huggies,d red and white one not so good but the other one is very good and it's dry, doesnt give rash,if at all u don't want to use pampers, do not use that red and white huggies.and please try and buy boots zinc and castor oil,its a very good cream,i use it for my baby although I usually get it from the UK cus I couldn't find it in Nigeria, someone gets it for,its very good,no rashes, fresh skin.try it and see.Goodluck with motherhood

  22. I guess it depends on each mother. When I had my baby, the hospital used pampers and I loved it, it was really good but I was crazy about huggies, hence I used huggies thereafter because it's tush. I kept going back and forth between the 2, but I will tell you from my own experience, pampers is better. As long as you use Vaseline on your baby's bumble before using diaper, your baby will not have diaper rash. Also let his bum breath once in a while. My son is 2 years and 4 months now going on 5, He never had diaper rash at all.

  23. FOr me huggies! i shipped in straight from the USA, so no issues around fake. I dont even use diaper cream, and she has never had a rash. it also goes all night!

  27. Lemme add to this convo, firstly I'm a proud father of a beautiful girl and truthfully I think the best in the Nigerian market is huggies Gold. My pretty bundle of joy is naturally endowed with a naija behind and as such had issues of leakage with the foreign huggies, due to the small room for babies dat are like mine.the huggies gold have simply being wonderful.had loads of Yankee huggies diapers dat we gifted out cos myself and my darling were not impressed with dem.best regards to chief and Bobo;im a childhood friend of his.on a final note,i think pampers premium comes a distant 2nd

  28. I want to venture into importation of Pampers from China, can one give me an advice on how to start up the business with our markets here in Nigeria ifyoffordum@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  29. First do your research and determine your business strategy. It's like taking a road map when you go on a tour. Decide if you want to go for low quality or high quality products. I for myself believe diapers should be of quality.
I'm not saying that China does not have quality but its hard to find it there, maintain it and control it. Especially if you have no previous experience in doing this business.
I for example involved in a new activity of a new innovative diaper that is at least as quality as the imported Huggies/Pampers, i.e. the UK and USA brands, if not more, as revealed in a lab test, and at quite lower cost making it very cost effective. We believe it will be a huge success here as it is in several other countries. It should hit Nigeria market in several weeks to come.
So everything is possible just take your time and research well.
